Chesnuts and Change →
This is a funny time of year to be a bike rider; the season has been long and hard and you’v got time to recover. But at the same time the last race was already a month ago, and you haven’t ridden much since. Your mind goes back to the parts of this season which you’d like to improve upon and part of you wants to get out and train harder than ever.

Ben Frederick's Race Report - Richmond Festival of...
When I looked at the start list, I knew that this was going to be a hard race. Names like Greg Wittwer, Joe Dombroski, Keck Baker and Adam Switters made me very nervous. All those guys are strong men on the road. Then I pre-rode the course. There was almost no elevation gain, and 40% of the race was on the road. There was a triple set of barriers after an off camber turn, 30 yards from the finish....

Ben Frederick's Race Report - Hyattsville CX,...
After the big win on Saturday, I was hoping to see how the legs would do with a second 60 minute race in a weekend. This was also the 3rd race in the MABRA Super 8 Series and I was second in the points race. After checking the In The CXhairs video, I felt confident that this could be a good course for me. There was a steep woods climb that had railroad ties layed across the path that people were...
Trinidad and Tobago →
I don’t normally make a habit of writing blogs during shorter stage races, I try to focus my creative energy on working out new and exciting ways to help my team leader or new and exciting places to fall off my bike – as I did yesterday. However I thought you might all appreciate a bit of an update from the glorious island of Tobago.

Charm City Cross Day Two - Ben Frederick's Report
The course was wicked fast and mostly dry and any mud on the course was tacky, in great contrast to yesterday’s sloppy, slippery conditions. With a starting position of 72, I knew I needed to get through the field quickly because of the speed of the course. I didn’t want a group to go off the front without me in it. I was able to pass 3 or 4 people by diving into the corners late, or...
criteriums, doping and the tolpuddle martyrs →
Well today i managed to bury my pedal in a 180 corner, end my race and completely screw up the calibration on my SRM. In my opinion the course was dangerous. a speedbump, a 180 turn and then back over the same speedbump. it wasn’t about who was strongest but who got unlucky and got the course tape blown into their front wheel or happened to hit the lip of the gutter wrong. I chased like a...

The team has big plans for 2012 and we are seeking companies to join us for the ride. We are setting up expansion teams in Australia and Europe and developing squads in the Carolinas/Tennessee and Baltimore, Maryland. Rituals and Cocktails →
The changing room before a kermis is a fascinating place to be. I sit there 4-5 times a week but it’s never really occurred to me to take a good look around before; everyone has their own little pre -race ritual. It’s like a hundred liturgies each with a different means to the same end…….

Proper prior preparation prevents piss poor performance, right
So I went out training on Saturday and 2 hours into a tempo ride I bumped into a race. I was going to watch but peer pressure from te nice old lady who hands me bidons sometimes Persuaded me to pin on a dossard.
Fully expecting to get dropped I set off with one can of coke in a bottle, a jersey with didn’t match my knicks and...

Broken in Belgium →
Well I’m back in Belgium and predictably it’s raining. I’ve been racing but without much luck the casteen and the broken ribs dont get on very vell, neither do poncy Light saddles and the above. So today I’m taking a rest, belgificiating my bike ( back to the San Marco regale saddle, there are some positives to not being sponsored) and later I’m going to enjoy a fine...

Through The Pain →
Tonight’s ride was a trip from home to the American River Canyon Overlook area and back. It was warm outside, but not uncomfortably so, with only the slightest breeze.
Just prior to the ride up Maidu Drive I had an epiphany about why my training has suffered so lately. Last year at this time I had a completely different state of mind when riding……….
Racing Without Ribs →
Well the last few days have just been one big adventure; the day after my tango with the torro. i decided to race, my legs felt good but i lasted a couple of laps before leaning on some guy into a corner and nealry passing out with pain. That was a bit of a waste of everyone’s time really. should have spent all day in bed……

Receta de Cafecito →
If you are as lucky as I am to have a stove-top espresso pot, here is a great technique for Cafecito or Café Cubano. Cafecito is a Cuban-style espresso. It is very strong and quite sweet. There is a Cuban ritual to making a Cafecito coffee. The ingredients are: cuban coffee and sugar. You’ll need a espresso maker, and a Pyrex measuring cup (if you don’t have one, a metal cup will work...
